The city is beautiful, and it's recommended to spend a few days to explore all Cuzco has to offer. Today we visit the famous lost Inca city of Machu Picchu, one of the most magical and mysterious places left by this culture. We'll descend 1.300 meters through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and follow the Urubamba river to Aguas Calientes. During this half day city tour in the center and nearby ruins of Cuzco we visit: The Cathedral; built on Inca Wiracocha ‘s time, the koricancha, (the temple of the sun). Leaving downtown we get to the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a wonderful temple of the Incas built in cyclopean style; Qenqo, another important Inca huaca; Puca Pucara or the red fortress which is impressively situated overlooking the Cusco valley and finally Tambomachay, one of the most impressive Inca baths. We begin the tour visiting Pisac, approximately 32 kilometers from the city of Cusco. It presents Inca remains, with a complex structure of terraces and irrigation channels. Pisac is well known for its crafts market that are only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The terraces are a testimony of the vast production of food. From Pisac, following the Vilcanota River we go to Urubamba where we stop for lunch. Later we continue to Ollantaytambo. The abandoned stones and unfinished walls remain as testimonies of the battle which Manco Inca faced when the Spanish Conquistadores arrived before the Incas fled to the Vilcabamba jungle. On the way back to Cuzco we visit Chinchero, well known for its ruins and for the lovely church where one can find many paintings from the Cusco school. It is also an appropriate region to view the splendid snow-capped peaks in the surrounding area.
