Welcome to Peru!

Peru is located at the westcoast of South-America, next to the Pacific Ocean. In the north are the borders of Ecuador and Colombia, in the east you will find the border with Brasil, and in the south are the borders with Bolivia and Chile. Here you will find a map of Peru.

Of course, Peru is very well-known by the history of the Inca´s and the campaign of the Conquistadores in the 16th century. Today you can still see signs and remains of these eras like the breathtaking area and Inca ruins of Macchu Picchu and the colonial centres of Cuzco, Arequipa, Lima and many other cities.

But there is more... a lot more, making Peru a great country to visit! First of all, Peru has a stunning nature, and like all Peruvians will tell you Peru is divided in three zones: The Coast (La Costa), The Mountains (La Sierra) and The Jungle (La Selva). La Costa has great beaches as well as archeological areas, La Sierra has high peaks to climb and beautiful colonial architecture, and La Selva is home to the most beautiful flora and fauna in the world.

The climate is very acceptable. In general there is a lot of sun during the day, only in winter time (december until march) there could be rainshowers in the highlands.

Peru has a total of 28 million inhabitants, most of them (9 million) are living in the capital Lima. Other famous cities of Peru are Arequipa, Puno, Cuzco, Trujillo and Iquitos. It has 2 official languages, Spanish and Quechua (the language of the Andinean people).

The most important industries of Peru are mining (gold, silver, copper, led and iron ore), fishing, agriculture and of course tourism.

A very important detail to tell about Peru is the food: the country has an excellent kitchen!! From fresh fish to excellent steaks, from sun-grown fruit to a perfect soup, it is all available. Still many people loose weight during their trip to Peru!

Peru is safe to travel in: between the mayor cities excellent airplane companies are running their services, even more popular are the bus companies with services almost every hour. Even after the recent earthquake of August 15th 2007, the traveling possibilities have returned to their normal level again.

All these ingredients make Peru a great land to visit!!
