Description: located in the Cordillera Chila, this mountain holds the spring of the river Amazone, the largest river of South America.
ITINERARY.
From Arequipa we drive through the Salinas national reserve with a beautiful scenery. We will get to Chivay where we will have our first overnight at Aquenta, an altitude of 4.782 m.a.s.l. Our second camp is at Carhuasanta river (4.730 metres), one of the furthest tributaries of the Amazon river. Here we are at the foot of Mount Mismi, from where the waters originate. Our third camp is at Qollpa, with an altitude of 4.400 metres, close to the town famous for alpaca-breeding.
On the last day we will come back to Arequipa, during the ride we have some stops to take pictures.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION.
Classification : Easy
Minimum altitude : 4.400 m.a.s.l.
Maximum altitude: 5.978 m.a.s.l.
The best time to climb in this region is between April and September, during the Andean summer. During the rest of the year, it is also possible to climb here, but it is more likely to have some bad weather. The rescue police see for the safety of all mountaineers in the region.
